The Rolls-Royce business unit Power Systems has signed agreements for delivery of almost 1000 MTU products with six Chinese companies at the recently concluded China International Import Expo.

The MTU brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, and started production in China in 2006. MTU systems manage power needs for various customers, such as powering large-sized yachts, tugboats and land vehicles.

The agreements signed at the CIIE include MTU Series 2000 and 4000 engines and gensets for power generation and mining applications.

In addition, Rolls-Royce Power Systems signed strategic cooperation agreements with partners from the marine, power generation and mining industry at the CIIE.

Tobias Ostermaier, president of Rolls-Royce Power Systems' China branch, said: "China is our most important growth market and our ambition is to be in China for China. In recent years, we have turned into a provider of integrated solutions for Chinese business partners. We have formed multiple joint ventures and established a customer care center, as well as a tech center in-country to be closer to customers and better satisfy their needs.

"It's great to see these efforts bearing fruit with the frame agreements and strategic cooperation agreements we signed at CIIE,"Ostermaier said.

Zhou Mi, a senior researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation in Beijing, said CIIE offered a platform for businesses in various sectors like Rolls-Royce and its partners to match supply and demand.

"CIIE also helped mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19 on global trade and economy by stabilizng supply chains," Zhou said. "With the revival of consumption in some countries and regions in the post COVID-19 era, many businesses wonder if there are changes in customer behavior and demand. CIIE offered them an opportunity for communication with partners, competitors and customers."
