CPPCC member urges integrated development across Straits

Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits should work hard to promote integrated development of the two sides and achieve national reunification, Pan Xinyang, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the top political advisory body, said on Wednesday.
Taiwan compatriots will enjoy more development opportunities, with the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) on the mainland and the integrated development of the two sides, said Pan, a member from the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.
"In recent years, more Taiwan residents have come the mainland to work, which shows that the integrated development of many fields across the Straits has brought a more obvious sense of gain, happiness and security to them," he said.
This year, more than 70,000 Taiwan compatriots spent Spring Festival on the mainland, more than double the previous year, in response to the government's call of staying put during the holiday to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, he said.
Pan said this year he will listen to opinions and ideas from Taiwan compatriots more often and make corresponding suggestions to the government as a CPPCC member to help Taiwan compatriots better integrate into the Chinese mainland.
