Technology such as LED display and Artificial Intelligence have backed the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in making the Games more attractive and friendly for audiences, according to project leaders of the involved companies.

Leyard's display technology has been used in the dazzling opening ceremony in the Bird's Nest, or the National Stadium, on Feb 4, contributing to the world's largest LED screen, which included a 10,000 square-meter ground screen as the main stage.

Huang Yifei, the company's leader in the Winter Olympic project, said the with 8K ultra-high definition quality, the water-proof LED can prevent low temperature, resist skid, bear the wight of all performers and athletes.

Its 8K UHD LED display is also applied in the broadcast of the Games such as alpine skiing, which enhances audiences' viewing experience by "clearly showing every snowflake", Huang said during an interview held at the 2022 Beijing Media Center.

Meanwhile, hearing-impaired people in China can enjoy the Games and sports news with the help of a sign language virtual interpreting system that has been developed by AI companies and BRTV.

With the "Wudao 2.0" hyperscale pre-training model as the key technology, an AI sign language anchor provides real-time interpretation and broadcasting services during news and sports broadcasts.

Zuo Jiaping, senior vice-president of Beijing Zhipu AI Technology Co, said the Beijing Disabled Persons' Federation has supported the project.

China has 27 million hearing-impaired people and promoting the technology will help them to watch live events and special reports, she said.
