Qin Gang calls 'wolf warrior' tag a 'narrative trap'

Foreign Minister Qin Gang rejected on Tuesday the so-called wolf warrior tag attached with Chinese diplomacy, calling it is a "narrative trap".
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing on the sidelines of the first session of the 14th National People's Congress, Qin said those who coined the term and set the trap either know little about China and its diplomacy or have a hidden agenda in disregard of facts.
"I recall when I arrived as Chinese ambassador to the United States, American media claimed here comes a Chinese wolf warrior. Now I'm back as the foreign minister, the media have stopped calling me that way. I feel kind of at a loss."
"The truth is that wolf warrior diplomacy is a narrative trap," he said. "In Chinese diplomacy, there is no shortage of kindness and goodwill. But if faced with wolves, Chinese diplomats have no choice but to confront them head on and protect our motherland."
