China, Zimbabwe sign agreements, contracts

Governments and enterprises from China and Zimbabwe signed six agreements and contracts on Tuesday during the visit of China's top legislator Wu Bangguo.

The documents ranged from governmental economic and technical co-operation to Zimbabwe's purchase of aircraft from China.

According to the contracts, Chinese enterprises will also provide equipment to local companies to upgrade telecommunication services.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and President of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe, witnessed the signing of the agreements after their talks.

In the meeting, Mugabe said that economic and trade relations between the two countries are expanding and he hoped Wu's visit will push such co-operation to a new level.

Wu said that China always sticks to the principal of mutual benefit.

"The two economies of China and Zimbabwe are strongly complementary and the two countries face good opportunities for co-operation," said Wu, who arrived in Harare on Monday for a four-day State visit.

The two leaders also touched upon international affairs during their meeting.

Mugabe said that developing countries should strengthen ties and resort to a regional co-operative mechanism to deal with crises and challenges.

Zimbabwe is opposed to all practices that violate the United Nations Charter, override international law or interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, according to Mugabe.

He described China's friendly partnership with developing countries, including African countries, as the basis of China's foreign policy.

Mugabe told Wu that Zimbabwe supports China's stance on the question of Taiwan.
