Following are some quotable quotesabout the annual full sessions of China's top legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC), and top advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), in Beijing on Thursday:

"Some non-communist parties and CPPCC members have, at CPPCC meetings or in their proposals, called for the enactment of a law against secession at the earliest date, to resolutely fight and curb 'Taiwan independence' activities in any forms."

--- Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in his review of the advisors' work and contributions in the past year.

"With the anti-secession law in place, people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits will feel safer."

"This is because the law is based on the principle of peaceful reunification and 'one country, two systems'".

--- Sze Cheung-pang, a CPPCC National Committee member from Hong Kong, on the proposed anti-secession law to be deliberated atthe NPC session.

"I hope the government will continue to take supportive measures so that farmers can have a bulging money bag and a betterlife."

--- Xu Dequan, a NPC deputy from central China's Henan Province,on measures to increase farmers' income and narrow the income gap between rural and urban residents. Official figures show that in 2004, China's farmers saw the fastest income rise in seven years.

"China has to divert 250 million rural farmers to non-agricultural sectors in the coming 15 years to evolve into a comparatively well-off society by 2020."

--- Lin Yifu, a renowned Beijing University economist and member of the CPPCC National Committee, explains why it is important to create more urban job opportunities for farmers.

"Bullish stock market and falling housing prices mean socialismfor us commoners."

--- An anonymous netizen wrote in a BBS on the website of Xinhua News Agency. The comment echoes to a large extent the feedback of an online poll that has found China's chronically bearish stock market to be the netizens' top concern.
