1. Plainclothes

指的是便衣（不穿制服的）警察。"便衣"除了plainclothes，還可以用undercover 來形容，例如：undercover policeman（便衣警察），undercover FBI agent（聯(lián)邦調(diào)查局密探），undercover security guard （便衣保安）等等。

警察正式的名稱是 police (集合名詞，只能當復(fù)數(shù)用，不能指個人)，或是 policeman (指個人)。而警官則是 police officer。就像在中文里我們常常戲稱警察為"條子"一樣，在美國老美也戲稱警察是 cop。這個用法由來是以前警察都穿那種有銅扣 (copper) 的大衣，所以就被昵稱為 copper。后來日子久了就變成了 cop。 這個詞原來是有一點歧視的味道，不過時間久了，連警察們自己都互稱是 cop，所以就變成一個中性的字眼了。

2. Catch up with
