Just as she did for the official portraits of her daughter, Charlotte, the Duchess of Cambridge has taken the first photos of His Royal Highness Prince Louis Arthur Charles, which have just been released by Kensington Palace.

The photos of the little prince at home in the palace were shot a few days after his April 23 birth, and published to commemorate the third birthday of his sister, Princess Charlotte. The photos are the first to be shared with the public since the new royal baby was presented to the world by his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, at the door of the London hospital where he was born.

"This images were taken on May 2, on Princess Charlotte's third birthday," it explains about the first image.

Dressed in a white outfit, the new blue-eyed baby - fifth in line to the throne - looks awake and alert as he appears propped up on a white frilly cushion in a pink upholstered armchair.

Prince Louis was born at the Lindo Wing, at St Mary’s Hospital on April 23 and although he was photographed with his parents leaving the hospital, the new photos are the official ones released by the Palace.

Prince George, who appeared in the official photographs of Charlotte as a newborn, also taken by Kate, wasn't included in the new photographs.

A keen photographer, the Duchess of Cambridge in the past has released other photos of her young family. She broke with tradition when she issued the official photographs of newborn Princess Charlotte in 2015.

The palace has also confirmed that baby Prince Louis, who will be four weeks old at the time, will be left at home when his parents and siblings attend the ceremony and festivities for the May 11 royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
